In 1974 the Minda Remand Centre stopped taking boys under 16 years of age. These boys were transferred to Taldree which opened on the 10th December 1974. Taldree was situated in the new buildings on part of the site of the Parramatta Girls’ Training School, which officially closed in 1975.
Taldree was a Juvenile Justice Centre that took in up to 60 boys under 16 years.
A new school building provided education for the boys in residence. Emphasis was placed on basic skills because many of the boys were educationally disadvantaged. The average length of stay at Taldree was two weeks.
Taldree closed in May 1980 and the boys were transferred to Werrington Park and its buildings were taken over by Kamballa.
