Gerard Mission was opened in 1945 by the United Aborigines Mission to replace the Swan Reach Mission. A school and a children’s dormitory was opened and 15 children from Swan Reach and Ooldea were initially Housed. From the 1950s children attended the local Winkie School. The state government took control of the Mission in 1961 and the Dormitory was closed. All children were sent to Colebrook Home in Eden Hills.
