Boys’ Town opened in Glenorchy in 1945. It was run by the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart and then in 1946, by the Salesians of Don Bosco, who opened a school on the premises. Boys’ Town was for boys aged between five and 16 years.

In August 1948, the Home made an application to receive British child migrants which the State and Federal governments approved but due to lack of woman associated with the boys’, British government denied the application and the State and Federal government withdraw funding. Bureaucrats on both sides suggested they apply for Maltese child migrants. Instead, the Superior, Father Brennan, employed a matron.  The British government changed its mind. Boys’ Town received its funding and were ready just before their official opening on 4 November 1951.

The first boys arrived June 1952, followed by two more and another 27 boys came on 26 September 1952.

Savio College replaced Boys’ Town in 1956.
