Bethany Boys’ Home was run by the Churches of Christ. It was opened in Dover in 1947 and then moved to Lindisfarne in 1956. Up to 18 boys, mostly State Wards aged between two and 18, lived there. From 1971, the Home also accepted girls.

The Committee decided to leave Dover because of the isolation and purchased ‘Orana” in Lowelly Avenue, Lindisfarne, Hobart. With the sale of the house in Dover and assistance from the state government, the move took place on 8 January 1956.

In 1971, the Home took in two girls in order to keep them with their brothers. After that, the Home accepted other girls.
