As a child Roy McFadyen was placed in Melbourne orphanages by his parents and at 15 in the middle of the Great Depression had to learn to support himself. Swept up by WWII into aircraft maintenance he went on to own a highly respected aircraft maintenance company and his life story provides a slice of Australian social history.
