Hokio Boys’ Home

Opened from 1945-1990, Hokio was situated on the coast. It catered for long stay younger boys, many of whom were considered unsuitable for Boys’ Home. Most admissions came from Boys’ Homes. The official age range of boys was 10-14 however during 1967, a broad range of ages were admitted ranging from 8-15.  This created problems in meeting the diverse needs and providing a suitable family environment.
