The Andrew Kerr Memorial Home, was opened by the Church of England in 1921 after the building was donated to the Church by the Kerr family. In Honour to their generous donation the home was named after Sergeant Andrew Kerr, a prominent figure in the Kerr family. It was opened with the goal to work as a care home.
