Allambie Reception Centre was a Victorian Children’s Home run by the Family Welfare Division of the Social Welfare Department.

The facility was designed to accommodate children from infancy to age 14.

Allambie accommodated children of both sexes. Prior to its opening, children had been housed at Turana Youth Training Centre in Parkville. The move to Allambie meant that young children of both sexes could be accommodated together.

To alleviate overcrowding at Allambie, the Victorian Social Welfare Dept leased the “Lady Dugan” Children’s Home in Malvern in 1970. A separate entry exists on CLAN’s website for this home.
